About Us
Theatre and performance studies is perhaps the most interdisciplinary field within eighteenth-century scholarship, encompassing academic disciplines such as literature, history, music, art history, dance, and architecture and cutting across geographic and cultural borders. As a global commodity, theatre and performance writ large established multinational networks of sociability and economic exchange, simultaneously enacting and resisting colonial hegemony, societal hierarchies, and national distinctions. The stage was at the centre of the eighteenth century and its perspective, our contribution to eighteenth-century studies.
Our caucus aims to bridge disciplines and geographies, bringing together scholars from diverse fields to deepen our understanding of performance culture through collaboration and the dialogic exchange of research, expertise, and methodological ideas. Now moving into its seventh year of existence, the TaPS caucus awards an annual Graduate Student Essay Prize and hosts a dramatic reading preceding the ASECS general meeting. We also sponsor two official caucus panels every year.
